Get your basement looked at

Water coming in now? Call. For a crack you've been watching, an old sump pump or a basement that smells musty, send the form and a local company will get back to you.

Before you call

It helps to have:

  • Your street address and municipality, so the request reaches a company that works there
  • Where the water appears: floor edge, a crack, a window well, the sump pit, or just dampness
  • When it happens: every rain, only in spring thaw, or all the time
  • The foundation type if you know it: stone, brick, block or poured concrete
  • Whether the basement is finished, or you're planning to finish it

Water near the furnace, water heater or outlets? Don't wade in if anything electrical might be wet. Only shut off basement circuits if you can reach the panel while standing somewhere dry.
